F.A.Q (Frequently Asked Questions)
What are wax melts?
Wax melts are a wickless, meltable and fragrant wax that can be heated in a wax warmer. Fragrance loads in melt form are higher than candles and are easy to change out to switch up home fragrance! There are various types of wax melts including: clamshell, wax shapes, cubes, tarts, wax shapes, etc.. Essentially, they all work the same way. Our wax tarts or shapes are sold in various oz, are made of a proprietary blend of wax, and can last up to 8-16 hours or more dependent upon the fragrance oil, scent, heat source, and cure time! You'll know when it is time to remove and add a new melt when the your melted wax has lost its scent! :)
How do you change out wax?
Want to change your wax? We love to drop cottons balls in the hot wax and remove; however, you can change your wax by also allowing your warmer to cool, placing the dish in the freezer for at least an hour, and then popping it out. There are other methods, too, but we find that the cotton balls are the easiest, quickest, and most effective method with the least amount of wear and tear to your warmer and allows you to remove excess glitter or mica that may accumulate at the bottom of the dish.
What is a Wax Warmer?
There are various types of wax warmers including but not limited to: tealight, hotplate and light-bulb. Our favorite warmer is a hot plate, as this type of warmer consistently gets to the optimum temperature to release fragrance from the wax melt - that way you are getting the most bang for your buck! If you do use a lightbulb we suggest using half of a melt at a time. Use only in tea-light warmers or UL listed electric warmers approved for wax melts for safety purposes.
What is "cure time"?
Wax tarts are like fine wine; given that with time, the scent throw becomes stronger. Wax melts or tarts made with soy wax often need "cure time" to allow the fragrance oil to penetrate the wax and give it the maximum cold and hot throw (or aroma). We suggest allowing your wax to cure for at least 2 weeks (longer, if you can wait and be patient) for optimum scent throw. You'll know when it's two weeks because we provide you with our pour dates directly on the packages. :)
How often do you release new collections?
New collections are released quarterly. Scents are specific to collections and will not be offered in other collections.
What is the difference between name brand wax and wax melts from Teaching Mind Body and Soul?
Our wax melts are hand poured in home with a proprietary blend of parasoy wax. Name brand candle companies and other wax melts are often made of paraffin wax, which is essentially a waste product of petroleum and is linked to irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. Stanford University released a study indicating that paraffin wax alone in tarts or candles are extremely hazardous, as they emit toluene and benzene - both of which are carcinogens. We use a proprietary blend of parasoy. Soy is a vegetable byproduct and supports our country's agricultural business as well as is safer for consumers. Our melts also contain gorgeous mica, which is biodegradable and safe to melt in tart form but should not be burned near an open flame.
What do I need to know about burning or melting your wax?
To prevent fire or injury: Remove packaging before use. Use only in tea-light warmers or UL listed electric warmers approved for wax melts. Read and follow all instructions provided with your warmer before use. Do NOT leave melter unattended while in use. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do NOT add water. Do NOT melt on stovetop or in non-approved appliances. Use only in well ventilated areas away from flammable objects. Discontinue use if dish contains less than 1/2" of wax.
